Adoption counseling is available to facilitate successful adoptions. Counseling and support services are provided to the prospective adoptive child as well as the prospective adoptive parents/family. These services are provided to help prepare for adoption, maintain stability throughout the placement process and to prevent disruption following placement.
Adoption counseling services for the prospective adoptive child can include creating a lifebook, bibliotherapy and discussing the adoption process. Adoption counseling services for the prospective adoptive parents can include support, psychoeducation about the needs of adoptive children and facilitating the attachment process as needed and appropriate.
